HONORARY SENIOR RESEARCH FELLOW

I studied History at the University of Hull. I have held research fellowships at University College London, The Queen's University of Belfast and the University of Cincinnati, USA. I have published widely on aspects of English and Irish maritime and colonial history during the sixteenth and seventeenth century. I am module leader for: Dealing with Demons: Witchcraft and witch beliefs in England and colonial America, c1550-1720; The Westward Enterprise: England, Ireland and America, c.1550-1650. I am the course leader for the MA History. My research focuses on the various aspects of English piracy during the early modern period. Recent publications include Under the Bloody Flag: Pirates of the Tudor Age (Stroud, 2009).
