Academic Profiling System

Gavin Hart is a Senior Lecturer in Criminology who joined Liverpool Hope University in 2021. He received a PhD from the University of Huddersfield in 2018 for doctoral research that looked at racism and hate-crime in Northern Ireland during a period of increasing immigration into the territory. Since then, Gavin has conducted research into the reintegration of former paramilitary combatants. More recently, his work has switched to focus upon the spread of extremist misogyny online. All of these research dimensions are united by their common focus on extremism in a range of different settings.

Research Expertise and Interests

Gavin has extensive experience studying race and ethnicity in divided societies. He is particularly interested in the relationship between diversity, hate crimes and political extremism. Recently, he has begun work on a new area of research into incel rhetoric and radicalisation processes in online communities.
