I hold a PhD from the University of Liverpool's Centre for Architecture and the Visual Arts (CAVA) undertaken in collaboration with FACT (Foundation for Art & Creative Technology). I am a graduate of Lancaster University (Lancaster Institute for Contemporary Arts | LICA) with a BA (Hons) in Fine Art and an MA in Contemporary Arts Research.
Prior to taking up post at Liverpool Hope University, I have taught on arts programmes within The University of Liverpool's School of Philosophy and undertaken a number of visiting lecturer posts (nationally/internationally) including work at Manchester Metropolitan University (UK), Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts (GAFA, China) and The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar (Dessau, Germany). I have also been an invited speaker at numerous conferences/symposia including presentations at The University of Edinburgh, CPH:DOX Copenhagen and the Media Architecture Biennale, Aarhus.
As a practicing artist (working predominantly with sculpture, site-based installation and drawing) I continue to exhibit work nationally/internationally, have been the recipient of numerous awards and residences and have works held in a number of private and public collections.
Recent exhibitions/residencies have included; an environmental sculpture commission for Illuminating York Festival (2016) that won in the 'Best Cultural Partnership' category of the 2017 York Culture awards, a public art installation in the forecourt of the Royal British Society of Sculptors building, London, to coincide with the release of a new publication documenting a 2013 residency I undertook of site specific works (Sculpture Shock: Site-specific interventions in Subterranean, Ambulatory and Historic contexts, ISBN: 9781911164180, Black Dog Press) (2017), a residency with the Light Up The North (LUTN) network culminating with an exhibition at the Grundy Blackpool (2017) a large-scale installation for the Cheongju Craft Biennial, South Korea and a series of public artworks around Broadgate, London (2017-18) as well as solo exhibitions at HOME, Manchester (2018) the Atkinson Museum, Southport (2019), the Chapel Gallery, Ormskirk (2019) and Standpoint Gallery, London (2019).
Upcoming projects for 2020 include a large-scale commission for the façade of the Atkinson Museum, Southport and a series of public artworks commissioned by the Hayward Gallery to be sited along London's South Bank.
